Today, the President of the country Emomali Rahmon received the United Nations Secretary-General Assistant, head of delegation of UN High Commission for implementation of initiative “Sustainable energy for all” Luis Horacio Gomez Echeverri.
The current issues and prospects of wide-ranging cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Nations, first of all in water and energy spheres and ensuring sustainable development have been reviewed at the meeting.
The Head of State Emomali Rahmon called the initiative of the UN Secretary-General on “Sustainable energy for all” “a logical continuation of efforts of the world community in this area” and expressed satisfaction over the recognition of Tajikistan as one of the five pilot countries in this program.
Luis Horacio Gomez Echeverri highly evaluated the global initiatives of Tajikistan in water and energy spheres and achievement of Millennium Development Goals and expressed confidence that this country will further be an active and initiative at the world level.
The interlocutors gave a high assessment to the prospects of hydropower development in Tajikistan and stressed that it is one of the main sources of renewable and ecologically clean energy.
