The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon today evening at the Pakistani Presidential house held tete-a-tete meeting with the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain.
At the meeting, the sides discussed issues of further development of friendly relations and cooperation.
At a meeting in a narrow format Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain confirmed the strong interest of Pakistan to expand cooperation with Tajikistan and said that "Pakistan has opened its doors to Tajikistan, and we are ready by the close and fruitful cooperation to take the relationship to a higher level meeting mutual interests."
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon said that "the expansion of multifaceted cooperation, development and strengthening of mutually beneficial and priority economic relations with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is one of the main directions of external cooperation of Tajikistan."
Bilateral relations at various levels have been called an important factor in the further expansion of cooperation in trade, investment, energy, transport, defense, security, culture and education, noted the need to create opportunities to strengthen and expand cooperation.
Emomali Rahmon stressed that the sustainable development of Pakistan's economy creates great opportunities, since Tajikistan can get out through Pakistan to its closest sea ports of Karachi and Gwadar.
Regarding the growth of trade turnover between Tajikistan and Pakistan in recent years, it was emphasized that over the next 3 years, bilateral trade volume should be increased to 500 mln US dollars.
At the meeting, held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding, the sides exchanged views on cooperation between the two countries in the effective use of warehouses of Gwadar port, a free economic zone "Panj", as well as strengthening of state border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, the fight against terrorism, extremism and implementation of joint projects that serve the interests of the countries in the region.
