Today, the President of the country Emomali Rahmon received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.
Various aspects of multidimensional relations and cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia have been reviewed at the meeting.
With reference to strategic and long-term character of partnership between Tajikistan and Russia the Head of State Emomali Rahmon stated: “Tajikistan considers a full range of partnership aspects with Russia the most important area of its foreign policy. We are comprehensively interested in strengthening and developing such partnership”.
In his turn, Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia is also interested in strengthening strategic and ally relationships with Tajikistan and takes consistent efforts for this cause.
Much attention was attached to improving political integration between Tajikistan and Russia in the period of new geopolitical realities in the world and in the region of Central and South Asia.
In the course of consideration of bilateral issues of Tajikistan and Russia, both sides first of all highly evaluated the level and substance of humanitarian cooperation between the two countries. In particular, opening of the branch of the Moscow Institute of steel and alloys (MISIS) in Dushanbe city was called “a valuable gift on the eve of the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Russia”.
The sides expressed satisfaction over the level and substance of military and security cooperation between the two countries, as well as considered necessary to strengthen it for the prospects of regional situation after the withdrawal of International Security Assistance Forces from Afghanistan in 2014.
With reference to abundant opportunities and resources of cooperation in spheres of energy, industry, transport, agriculture, communication and others the Head of State of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon stated: “We are interested in expansion of economic cooperation equal to security interaction with Russia”.
Sergey Lavrov called the development of cooperation in hydropower area as one of the priority areas of economic relations with Tajikistan, as well as highlighted Russia’s interest in the development of versatile economic cooperation.
A constructive talk was also held regarding the improvement of legal-treaty basis of activities and residence of Tajik labor migrants in Russia, cooperation in oil and gas sphere, regional issues of Central Asia and other issues of mutual interest.
