Today in Rio-de-Janeiro of Brazil in the margins of Rio+20 Conference the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova.
The issues of substantial cooperation of Tajikistan with UNESCO have been reviewed during the talks.
The Leader of Tajikistan highly evaluated the activities of various specialized structures and institutes of the United Nations, including the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in his country.
Particularly, President Emomali Rahmon mentioned about the assistance of UNESCO in organizing International Event of Classical Music “Shashmaqom” Performers, introducing the date of the 1150th anniversary of founder of Tajik-Persian literature Abuabdullo Rudaki in UNESCO Celebrations List, allocation of means for further scientific research and ensuring protection of ancient monuments of Tajikistan – Sarazm town and Buddha monastery in Ajina-Teppa.
The Head of Tajikistan also drew the attention of his interlocutor to the issue of organization of the Third International Geophysical Expedition to Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan for study of the current state of glaciers and trends of change of their structure.
In connection with the fact that in 2013 Tajikistan will celebrate 20th anniversary of its membership in UNESCO, President Emomali Rahmon invited UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova to pay a friendly visit to Tajikistan at any time in mentioned year.
