Today in Rio-de-Janeiro of Brazil the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon opened and presided at the special event on water cooperation on behalf of its organizers, delegations of Tajikistan, Hungary, Finland and “UN-Water” mechanism.
During the opening remarks the Head of State Emomali Rahmon stressed that Tajikistan in the world arena is not only an initiator of review of water issues, but also a supporter of realization of concrete measures and actions on sustainable use of this vital resource. He added that the efforts of Tajikistan in water issues are aimed at sustainable and efficient use of opportunities of water, strengthening international fair and mutually advantageous cooperation.
As the President of Tajikistan noted, “the cooperation in water sphere must strengthen confidence among all water consumers and facilitate the realization of integrated water resources management in local, national, regional and international levels.
President Emomali Rahmon expressed confidence that the development of cooperation and partnership between the various water consumers, from the local and national levels to regional and international ones can favor the achievement of goals on ensuring water and sanitary, as well as protection of water resources for future generations.
For realization of goals of International Year of Water Cooperation, the Tajik Leader proposed to conduct the International Dialogue of the UN General Assembly on 21st March of 2013 and the UN International Conference on issues of water cooperation at the end of that year.
In his speech the Head of Tajik State stressed the role of hydropower that is considered as a key priority of sustainable development and the main source of power generation for ensuring needs of population and economy of the country.
