Participation in CSTO Summit

The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon took part in a regular meeting of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The meeting also included the participation of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinian, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov and President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

Among the main issues on the summit’s agenda were ensuring security, boosting the organization’s defense capability, CSTO collaboration in combating common challenges and threats to security, in particular international terrorism and extremism, political and religious extremism, illicit drug and firearms trafficking, cyber crime and the alarming situation in Afghanistan. They also discussed global and regional security issues in the organization’s area of responsibility.

President Rahmon noted that threats and challenges to security and stability of the modern states have increased, including within the organization’s area of responsibility that requires more integration of the CSTO member nations in addressing the fight against undesirable phenomena of the century.

 “Next year will mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War, and to celebrate this important historical date, we need to take all measures within the framework of the CSTO,” said President Rahmon.

A range of documents were adopted following the meeting. The heads of delegations of the CSTO member states signed the CSTO Collective Security Council Declaration on improving integration and collaboration to strengthen regional and international security, an action plan on celebrating 75th anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, list of additional measures aimed at reducing tensions in the Tajik-Afghan border and other documents related to strengthening political, military and military-economic cooperation of the CSTO member states as well as improving the legal base and financial foundations of the organization.

The counterparts signed more than 15 relevant resolutions of the Collective Security Council on further integration in various directions.

The results of the meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council were summed up at a press conference with the wide participation of media representatives.
