“According to scholars, Kangurt is the birthplace of famous scientists and scholars since ancient times, and many craftsmen and wrestlers have lived in its territory,» he added.

The name Kangurt was first mentioned in 1221 in the annals of the historian Atomalik Juwayni the history of the world’s exploration.

President Rahmon emphasized that this historic date in the year of celebration of the 30th anniversary of the state independence of Tajiks is exactly 800 years old.

Many changes have taken place in Kangurt. On November 23, 1930, Kangurt was transformed into a district, and already, by the 1940s its population was over 38,000. From 1948 to 1956, in order to develop the cotton industry, most of the people of Tajikistan, including Kangurt natives, were relocated to the valleys of Kulob, Dangara, and Vakhsh. Due to migration, the population of the district was greatly reduced, and on September 15, 1953, Kangurt district was abolished as a district.

“The economic and social development of Kangurt began due to independence, and now about 19,000 people of Kangurt, consisting of 2,354 households, live in two villages — Kangurt and Husainabad,” Emomali Rahmon said.

President Rahmon emphasized that today, due to the independence, Kangurt has modern roads, high-rise buildings, many service facilities, a modern market, a district hospital, and manufacturing enterprises.
