Meeting with the delegation of the European Parliament

On February 22, at the Palace of the Nation, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received a delegation of the European Parliament headed by David McAllister.

During the meeting, issues of development of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union, including inter-parliamentary relations, were considered.

The President of the country, Emomali Rahmon, recalling the special place of the European Union in the foreign policy of the Republic of Tajikistan, expressed satisfaction with the course of development and the current level of relations in the political, economic, security and cultural spheres, as well as in tackling regional problems.

The parties noted the important role of parliaments in the development and expansion of relations, referring to the significant contribution of the Commission and the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of Tajikistan - European Union in the process of strengthening long-term cooperation.

The head of state highly appreciated the support of the European Union to Tajikistan during the spread of the pandemic.

During the meeting, the parties discussed key issues of political and economic relations and cooperation in the field of security, and also exchanged views on the use of wide opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas of trade, economy and investment.

The parties paid special attention to the implementation of the National Development Strategy until 2030 and the New International Decade "Water for Sustainable Development".

At the meeting, the interlocutors also discussed the current situation in Afghanistan and exchanged views on other important regional and global issues.

Issues of joint struggle against global threats and challenges were also touched upon, and it was also recognized as necessary to continue the partnership of the parties within the framework of the BOMCA and CADAP programs.
