President of the Republic of Tajikistan

Press statement following talks with President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko

11.10.2022 19:20, Dushanbe city

Dear media representatives,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

First of all, I would like to once again greet the President of the Republic of Belarus, Distinguished Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko, and all Belarusian guests in Tajikistan – welcome.

Further development of the Tajik-Belarusian relations of friendship and strategic partnership is one of the priorities of the foreign policy of Tajikistan.

Today's talks traditionally took place in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust.

They have become a logical continuation of our joint efforts to further develop interstate ties in all directions.

I am sure that their results will give an additional impetus to the expansion of cooperation between the two friendly countries.

During the talks, Alexander Grigoryevich and I noted the progressive development of bilateral cooperation in the political dimension, in trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres.

We agreed to take additional measures to fill our relations with new practical content.

In this context, the solid package of bilateral documents adopted today will tangibly strengthen the legal basis of our relations.

Among them, I would like to highlight the Roadmap for bilateral cooperation for 2022-2026.

We noted the results of the regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which took place in June this year in the city of Dushanbe.

We welcomed the holding of the Tajik-Belarusian business forum and an exhibition of Belarusian products within the framework of today's visit.

We emphasized the growth trend in trade turnover, the volume of which over the eight months of this year is more than one and a half times higher than last year.

The agricultural sector, areas of industrial cooperation and interregional cooperation were identified as priority areas for economic cooperation.

In the context of the implementation of the Program for the Accelerated Development of the Industry of Tajikistan, we noted our interest in developing cooperation with the Belarusian side in the areas of light, food, pharmaceutical, chemical and mining industries.

We discussed our cooperation in the humanitarian area, in particular in the field of education, science and new technologies.

We gave the necessary instructions to continue the good tradition of allocating educational quotas on a reciprocal basis.

The focus was made on expanding direct contacts between higher educational institutions and scientific institutions of the two countries.

Agreements were reached to continue the practice of regularly holding days of culture and other joint events of a cultural and humanitarian nature.

I emphasize that the development of intercultural dialogue is an important condition for preserving and multiplying the traditions of friendship and mutual understanding between the Tajik and Belarusian peoples.

During the talks, we placed special emphasis on the problems of regional security.

We noted a sharp increase in security threats, including terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, cybercrime and transnational organized crime.

In this context, we exchanged views on the situation that is developing in Afghanistan, on the southern borders of the CIS and the CSTO.

We spoke in favor of continuing close coordination between the relevant departments and special services of the two countries in various formats.

When discussing topical issues of a regional and international nature, we advocated further active interaction within the framework of the UN, the CIS, the SCO, the CSTO and other international structures.

Tajikistan this year contributed to the decision of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO to launch the procedure for admitting Belarus to the SCO.

The Tajik side highly appreciates the results of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Belarus, which opened a new page in the Tajik-Belarusian strategic partnership.

And now I would like to give with great pleasure the floor to Alexander Grigoryevich.

Please.
