Today, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has held a consultative meeting with representatives of the World Bank, consulting companies, the Prime Minister of the country and heads of relevant ministries and departments.
The issues related to state of affairs pertaining to technical and economic feasibility study and assessment of ecological and social impacts of the project to construct the Roghun hydropower station have been reviewed at the meeting.
At the beginning of the gathering the results of a regular consultative meeting of a group of riparian countries to the basin of Amudarya river for the discussion of periodic reports on study and assessment works related to Roghun HPP, which was held on the 6th and 7th of November 2012 in Almaty City (the Republic of Kazakhstan), have been considered.
In this regard, on behalf of the Government of Tajikistan the State Advisor of the President on Economic Policy Farrukh Hamraliev, who has been the head of delegation of Tajikistan at the meeting in Almaty, Regional Director of the World Bank Saroj Kumar Jha, Head of Energy Division of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia Ranjit Lamech, Vice President of Company “Coyne et Bellier” Philippe De Felix on behalf of the consortium of consultative companies, the JSC "Institute Hydroproject" of Moscow City Pavel Shestopalov, Director of the OJSC “Roghun Hydropower Station” Khayrullo Safarov, Head of Group of experts of “Poyry Energy Ltd.” Dr. Robert Zwahlen, Director of State Institution “Dam Zone of Roghun Hydropower Plant” Ramazon Mirzoev, several experts of consultative companies have reported and expressed their views on the subject.
At the end of the meeting the President of the country Emomali Rahmon gave his overview of the process of study of technical and economic feasibility and socio-ecological impact of Roghun HPP project, as well as expressed satisfaction with the course of fruitful cooperation in this direction.
During the deliberations on the continuation of effective cooperation of relevant structures of the Government of Tajikistan, representatives of the World Bank and international consulting companies there have been given fruitful instructions and recommendations.
It was in particular stressed that necessary measures should be taken to work out and coordinate regular reports on study and assessment works regarding the project during the next meeting, which has been scheduled for January 2013.
At the same time, it was highlighted that the works on technical and economic feasibility study and assessment of ecological and social impacts of the project to construct the Roghun hydropower station should be organised according to an agreed schedule.
It was stated that the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan together with the World Bank will make relevant conclusion on this important project on the basis of international expertise.
