Today, the President of the country Emomali Rahmon received the Permanent Representative of the Asian Development Bank in Tajikistan Si Si Yu.
The issues of current cooperation and prospects for its development have been considered at the meeting.
It was noted with satisfaction that over 15 years of cooperation the ADB extended around $1 billion of preferential credits, grants and technical aid for support of socio-economic progress of Tajikistan. Besides it, about $140 million of grant funds have been allocated in 2013-2014 for improvement of roads, power networks, enhancement of private sector and regional cooperation.
At the same time, it was highlighted that the untapped possibilities for enhancement of mutually beneficial cooperation between both sides are abundant. In this regards, both parties expressed their interest in more intense development and expansion of cooperation directions, including in participation in the implementation of regional energy and transport projects for construction of new power stations, reconstruction of existing stations, laying the power transmission lines and construction of railways and automobile roads. As it was stressed, the support of development of private sector of Tajikistan and attraction of direct foreign investments will be an important direction of cooperation. It was also mentioned that along with enhancement of energy, transport, and private sector, actions might be provided for ensuring food security in the new strategy of cooperation of Tajikistan with the Asian Development Bank worked out for 2014-2018.
The sides also touched upon other subjects of mutual interest.
