Today, the President of the country Emomali Rahmon received the United Nations Resident Coordinator and the UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan Alexander Zuev.
During the talk it was noted with satisfaction that the most comprehensive activities of the United Nations is noticed in Tajikistan in the territory of former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. Numerous projects are being realized nowadays with the support of 22 UN institutions and agencies in the areas of education, health, agriculture, rural development, popular crafts, irrigation, small energy and others. It was expressed particular satisfaction over the cooperation in the healthcare sphere, because as its result the situations with child mortality, including newly-born children, has been reduced for several times, as well as the number of patients with infectious diseases has diminished.
As it was mentioned, the remarkable results are noticed in the direction of clearing the territory of Tajikistan of mines and other explosive substances. To date 85% of lands containing such dangerous substances have been cleared.
The preparations to the High-level International Conference on Global Water Issues to be held under the aegis of the UN in August 2013 in the margins of “International Year of Water Cooperation” have been one of the main subjects of discussion. It should be reminded that 2013 has been announced as “International Year of Water Cooperation” by the United Nations at the proposal of Tajikistan and in the framework of this initiative this year different fruitful events will be conducted in all corners of the world, including in the headquarters of the United Nations Organization.
