In the afternoon, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon arrived on an official visit to Brussels City, the capital of the Kingdom of Belgium.
Firstly, the Head of Tajik State Emomali Rahmon met with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.
During the meeting the issues of wide-ranging cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union have been discussed.
The sides expressed their satisfaction over the ratification of two financial agreements between Tajikistan and the European Union, among which one is grant agreement and another is credit agreement, as well as financial contract with the European Investment Bank on reconstruction of electricity networks of Tajikistan.
Much attention was paid to the development of a new EU Strategy for Central Asia for 2014-2020.
As President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon highlighted, "security issues in Central Asia after the withdrawal of international security assistance forces from Afghanistan, strengthening fight against terrorism, extremism, development of regional cooperation in Central Asia, collaboration in the sphere of fruitful use of water and energy resources, as well as prevention of global threats and dangers should be in the focus of mutually beneficial relations of the European Union with our region".
The continuation of support to production sectors of economy of Tajikistan - industry, hydropower, transport and agriculture, including with consideration of the needs of Afghanistan has been considered necessary.
A constructive talk was also held on the promotion of civil society and other subjects of interest.
