Today, President Emomali Rahmon received the UN Under-Secretary-General and the Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme Rebeca Grynspan, who arrived in Tajikistan for preparation of the International High-Level Conference on Water Cooperation and participation in it.
Ms. Rebeca Grynspan expressed her impressions regarding the relation of Tajikistan to this important global summit to be held within the framework of events of International Year of Water Cooperation. She highly evaluated the level of preparations. She also felicitated head of state Emomali Rahmon and the people of the country on the remarkable achievements in development, including in education and poverty reduction.
Rebeca Grynspan stated in particular: “We reaffirm yours, Mr. President, and your country’s leadership in the implementation of Millennium Development Goals, since you and the Republic of Tajikistan are indeed leaders in addressing global issues related to development, particularly in water sphere”.
With reference to difficulties of our republic in the area of supply with electricity power, Ms. Grynspan highlighted that Tajikistan has also been recognized as a pilot country for implementation of the UN Secretary-General’s action “Sustainable energy for all” and expressed belief that the world community will assist and support Tajikistan in the elimination of such problem.
It was reminded that over 900 politicians, scientists, experts of different areas related to water and environmental protection from more than 70 countries all over the world and numerous regional and international organizations will attend the International High-Level Conference on Water Cooperation. Only from the UN seven Under-Secretaries-General and numerous other specialists and officers will arrive in Dushanbe.
The Tajik President Emomali Rahmon stated that “attaining of sustainable development goals requires a fruitful cooperation with international partners, including with UN structures”.
Head of state highly commended the cooperation of UN agencies, including UNDP with Tajikistan, and expressed confidence that the beneficial ties between the two sides will further expand.
