The substantial discussion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union has been held at the meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with EU Special Representative for Central Asia Patricia Flor.
Head of state Emomali Rahmon stated at the beginning: “Tajikistan considers the European Union as its reliable partner on the international scene and we are willing to expand sustainable, long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation with this authoritative institution”. It was stressed in particular: “We highly appreciate continued attention of the European Union to various aspects of cooperation with Tajikistan, including on economic, trade, political issues and ensuring of regional security”.
The sides focused their attention on the issues of interaction in the areas of management of water and energy resources, ensuring energy security, protection of environment, expansion of transport and transit regional opportunities, development of trade ties and key socio-humanitarian spheres – education, healthcare, population employment and social security.
The consideration of current situation and its prospects in Afghanistan, including after 2014 and the ways to enhance interaction between Tajikistan and the EU in this direction have also been one of the subjects of the conversation.
It was expressed confidence that the concrete requirement of Tajikistan will be taken into account in the new Strategy of EU for Central Asia for 2014-2020.
