Joint statement between the Republic of Tajikistan and Malaysia on occasion of the state visit of his Excellency Emomali Rahmon, president of the Republic of Tajikistan to Malaysia, 22 – 25 june 2014

1.    At the invitation of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan His Excellency Emomali Rahmon undertook a State Visit to Malaysia from 22 to 25 June 2014.

2.      During his first State Visit, the President was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Parliament House in Kuala Lumpur. The President also held fruitful and in-depth discussions with Prime Minister Najib Razak, which took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere. The discussions covered a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interests.

3.      President Emоmali Rahmon and Prime Minister Najib Razak underlined the importance of boosting the overall cooperation between Tajikistan and Malaysia, in the true interest and expectation of the people of both countries.  This would contribute substantially to the strengthening of friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries and promote peace and stability not only in the Asian region but also the world as a whole.

4.      The two leaders agreed to further enhance bilateral relations on a higher level which meets the interests of both countries. Both leaders also agreed to continue the close cooperation in various regional and international organisations and expressed confidence that the close relationship between the two countries will provide a firm foundation in expanding future bilateral cooperation to a closer partnership.

5.      Both leaders expressed readiness to develop the economic partnership between Tajikistan and Malaysia, which has enormous potentials, on the basis of equality and mutual benefits which among others include trade and investment promotion activities, to establish networks between various economic entities such as chambers of commerce and State owned enterprises.  They agreed to create conducive and favourable conditions in economic, financial and other fields in an effort to promote and develop further cooperation between economic entities of the two countries as well as providing the necessary support.

6.      In realising the full potential of bilateral relations, both sides recognised the need to maintain regular contacts, consultations and close coordination at various levels and also promote regular exchange of ideas and opinions on international issues of common interest at the margins of international meetings and conferences such as the United Nations Organisations, Organisation of the Islamic Conference and other important international organization framework.

7.      Both sides recognised the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation, and emphasised for the cooperation to include education, culture, science and technology, mass-media, tourism, sports, public health and social security. Both sides also support exchange programmes between higher educational institutions, research entities, youth and friendship organizations of the two countries, in the effort to promote people to people contacts and understanding.

8.      Acknowledging the security and stability, the steady economic developments, as well as the progressive social improvement are of main interests of all the people in the Central Asia region, Malaysia highly appreciates the efforts of the Republic of Tajikistan of promoting security, stability, and development of the region. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to promote close collaboration to effectively address the problems of international terrorism, trafficking of illegal drugs and psychotropic substances, transnational organised crimes, nuclear proliferation, arms race and other challenges and threats of the present.

9.      Noting the common understanding of the two countries on a number of important international and regional issues, President Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister Najib Razak agreed that Tajikistan and Malaysia would further strengthen their cooperation within the frameworks of the United Nations and other international organizations. Both sides firmly adhere to main objectives and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and norms of International Law based on trust, mutual benefits, equality, and cooperation. Tajikistan and Malaysia also support peaceful settlement of international disputes, underline the leading role of the United Nations Organization in safeguarding peace and security, recognize and respect of various civilizations and development models, promote and ensuring permanent peace based on security and joint prosperity.

10.    Both leaders emphasized the need for concerted efforts to build up the climate of confidence and mutual understanding and strengthen stability regionally and internationally. Both leaders agreed that addressing international issues should be conducted through peaceful diplomatic means and dialogue.

11.    President Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister Najib Razak expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the bilateral meeting held during the first visit of the highest level between both countries, which has elevated bilateral relations into a qualitatively new stage.

12.    The President of Tajikistan welcomed Malaysia’s upcoming chairmanship of ASEAN in 2015.  Malaysia looked forward to intensifying its relations with Tajikistan through the ASEAN platform during Malaysia's chairmanship in 2015.

13.    President Emomali Rahmon expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Najib Razak for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to him and to his delegation during their stay in Kuala Lumpur. 

 

14.    President Emomali Rahmon took the opportunity to extend an invitation to His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, as well as to Prime Minister Najib Razak to undertake a reciprocal visit to Tajikistan.  Prime Minister Najib Razak accepted the invitation with appreciation. Details of the visit will be decided through the diplomatic channels.
