The course and results of the Dushanbe Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit

Dushanbe City is in the focus of attention of humanity due to holding of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, as this Organization has become a respected, authoritative institution over the years of its effective activities. The capital of Tajikistan has received the heads of states where more than half of population of the planet lives.

Presidents of 6 SCO member states – President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, and the President of host country, the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon have gathered in the capital of Tajikistan for participation in this summit. They have been joined by heads and high-level representatives of observer states of this Organization and other respectable guests, including the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Ruhani, President of Mongolia Tsakhiagin Elbegdorj, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, Minister of Foreign Affairs of India Sushma Swaraj, and counselor of Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Political and Security Issues Sartaj Aziz. Moreover, high-level representatives of different regional and international organizations, as well as leadership of working structures of the SCO have actively taken part in this summit.

The Summit took place in a newly built “Kokhi Navruz” complex which has turned into a wonder of architectural arts and decoration of civilized Tajik people.

The SCO Summit began with welcoming of top-level guests by Head of state Emomali Rahmon in the “Meeting” hall of Kokhi Navruz.

A limited number of heads of 6 SCO member states took a memorable picture before the commencement of the Summit.

The narrow-format meeting with the participation of only heads of 6 SCO member states was held in “Arzhang” hall.

The Summit of SCO Organization addressed the issues related to regional and international security, coordination of anti-terrorist activities, strengthening of cooperation with observer states, order of admission of new members to the Organization and other important issues.

The collective photographing of heads of member and observer states, as well as high-level guests took place before the enlarged meeting.

At the enlarged meeting, which proceeded under the chairmanship of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, first the Head of host country and heads of other member states of SCO – Nursultan Nazarbaev, Xi Jinping, Almazbek Atambayev, Vladimir Putin and Islam Karimov delivered their speeches.

This meeting was held in big white hall titled “Zarandud” which is 36-meter high up to its dome’s center.

Following the reports by the SCO Secretary General and Head of Regional Anti-Terrorist Center of the Organization heads of 3 observer states – President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, President of Iran Hassan Ruhani and President of Mongolia Tsakhiagin Elbegdorj spoke at the Summit.

Then, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow as a guest of honor and at the end Minister of Foreign Affairs of India Sushma Swaraj, Counsellor of Prime Minister of Pakistan Sartaj Aziz and UN representative expressed their views.

At the end of Summit Dushanbe Declaration of Heads of SCO Member States, decisions on commitments of candidate state for membership in the Organization, order of granting status of member state, Strategy of Organization’s development up to 2025, celebration of 70th anniversary in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, intergovernmental agreement of member states on creation of favorable conditions for international automobile transportation and other documents were signed.

Thus, during the press conference President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, as the head of SCO presiding country, named the course and results of the Dushanbe Summit as very valuable and historic.
