President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon sent a telegram to President-elect of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, which reads, in particular:

Let me sincerely congratulate you, Your Excellency, and the friendly people of Afghanistan on your election as the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the creation of the state of national unity.

The state of national unity is a vital necessity of the country and the brotherly people of Afghanistan. From the very beginning of the formation of modern political system in your country the need is constantly stressed for the creation of ambient, balanced and broad social base of the state, the unity and solidarity of all patriotic and constructive forces.

I hope that the government of national unity, thanks to your and His Excellency Abdullah Abdullah's joint efforts, loyalty and dedication will be united and responsible guide of Afghanistan towards stability, creativity, progress and lasting unity.

I hope that the historically friendly relations between the two countries that share common roots of origin, speak the same language, share common culture and religion, and expand their mutually beneficial relationship through collaborative efforts, will be elevated to a new level.
