Today, President of the country Emomali Rahmon received the Chair of the Delegation of the European Parliament for Relations with Central Asia Iveta Grigule.
The meeting addressed the issues related to wide-ranging cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union.
Head of Tajik State Emomali Rahmon expressed satisfaction over the level and content of relations between Tajikistan and the European Union dynamically developed over the recent years, as well as stressed: “The European Union can consider Tajikistan as its reliable partner in the strategically important region of Central Asia located in the forefront of fight against modern threats and challenges”.
It was expressed gratification over the beneficial inter-parliamentary relations between Tajikistan and the European Union which are in particular developed in the framework of Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation and Group of Friendship of Tajikistan and the European Union.
At the same time, it was underlined that “strengthening of relations with the European Union and its structures, including the European Parliament, is among the priority directions of foreign policy of Tajikistan”.
It was expressed satisfaction over the expansion of economic and trade ties. As it was mentioned, the trade turnover between Tajikistan and the European Union has reached 534 million USD in 2013 compared to 362 million USD in 2012.
As it was highlighted, the development of cooperation in the areas of economy, infrastructure and regional security are three priority direction of relations between Tajikistan and the European Union.
Constructive talk was also held on the process of development of democracy and civil society of Tajikistan, protection of human rights and freedoms and other issues of mutual interest.
