Today, President Emomali Rahmon received the Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UN), the UN Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan Alexander Zuev and heads of various structures of the organization in the country.

The meeting discussed the development of fruitful cooperation of Tajikistan with this influential organization.

President Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the conversation said: "We appreciate the cooperation of the Government of Tajikistan and the United Nations in support of the Millennium Development Goals, since in its framework National Development Strategy has been adopted which is successfully implemented in practice in order to ensure sustainable development and improving the welfare of the people."

It was also stressed that in the framework of fruitful cooperation between Tajikistan and 23 UN agencies during 2010-2014 were realized about 100 projects totaling $ 346 million US dollars, including in the areas of public administration reform, education, health, social welfare, agriculture, elimination of consequences of natural disasters.

In the course of constructive conversation, special attention was paid to the development of the UN Development Assistance Framework in Tajikistan (UNDAF) for 2016-2020, which covers 12 promising areas of cooperation.

This program must interact with a new strategy for the development of Tajikistan, including medium and long term socio-economic development of the country until 2020 and 2030 respectively. It was stressed the need to properly identify future goals and objectives, as well as a set of measures to address them.

At the meeting also spoke representative of the World Food Programme of the United Nations Nicolas Oberlin, representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Viorel Guts, Acting Representative of UNICEF Lucia Elmi and a representative of the World Health Organization of the United Nations Pavel Ursu.

In particular, it was stressed that UN officials in Tajikistan appreciate the creative initiative of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in addressing global problems in various fields of human life. The two sides expressed their willingness and readiness of the UN to the effective implementation of these initiatives.

It was expressed confidence in the further development and efficiency of cooperation between Tajikistan and various UN agencies.
