March 24 construction of a new modern city was started with the participation of President Emomali Rahmon in the steppe Somgor and on the territory of Mirzoravot of Bobojon Ghafurov district of Sughd region.

President Emomali Rahmon, after getting familiarized with the plan of the new city in the steppe Somgor and territory of Mirzoravot of Bobojon Ghafurov district, has launched its construction. The President proposed to call the city Sayhun.

It should be noted that in the years of independence, Tajikistan has begun construction of a new city for the first time, that indicates the elevation of the country to a qualitatively new level of development.

This large-scale project is carried out on instruction of President Emomali Rahmon and is a continuation of constructive policy of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and also aims to provide more than 40,000 families or 250,000 residents of the city of Khujand, cities and districts of Sughd region with housing, modern living conditions, infrastructure for effective employment.

In the city of Sayhun will be built 19 micro-districts, 17 educational institutions, 31 kindergartens and nursery schools, 140 sales and service centers, 40 sports grounds and halls, transport and passenger terminal, market and other necessary infrastructure.
