President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon sent a telegram of condolences to President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which, states in particular:

"Your Excellency,

I found with deep sadness the news of the death of the former President of Turkey Suleyman Demirel.

The deceased was a prominent politician and statesman, one of the prominent figures of the country. The people of Tajikistan today lost its old and sincere friend. It was during the presidency of the late, and thanks to him that the foundations were laid to the bilateral constructive relations of Tajikistan and Turkey. It is still not forgotten that Suleyman Demirel, despite the unstable and difficult situation in the first years of independence in our country, was one of the first who visited the Republic of Tajikistan on an official visit.

In these difficult moments, on behalf of the Government and people of Tajikistan I express to the friendly people of Turkey sincere condolences for this loss.
