Emomali Rahmon put in commission a beautiful and modern building of the National Library of Tajikistan and had an interesting meeting with numerous representatives of intelligentsia

This morning the President of the country Emomali Rahmon put in commission a beautiful and modern nine-floor building of the National Library of Tajikistan and had an interesting meeting with numerous representatives of intelligentsia.

The National Library of Tajikistan has 25 reading halls with fifteen hundred sits available, 28 storehouses for books and documents and 10 conference halls. It is provided for storage of 10 million copies of books. Today the general fund of the National Library of Tajikistan contains 6 million 200 hundred thousand printed and electronic materials.

There are 500 thousand electronic books in the computers of a big reading hall of the electronic library, which has 170 sits available. Besides it, all electronic reading halls have connection with the best electronic libraries of the world through Internet that is among the important advantages of this great institution.
The library also has a canteen and a cafe with 560 and 215 sits respectively.

During the meeting with representatives of intelligentsia, President of the country Emomali Rahmon congratulated the people of the state with an approach of the world-famous Nowruz and opening of this unique treasury of science and culture.

It was ordered that further every year the 4th of September, which was announced in 2007 as a Day of Book by the Head of state, must be celebrated all over the country. It should be noted that in 4 September 2007 President Emomali Rahmon laid a foundation stone of the National Library of Tajikistan.

In the course of his speech and talks with the intelligentsia the Head of state Emomali Rahmon called for the expansion of creative activities, encouragement of an interest in reading books and respecting culture, particularly the youth of the country. He also expressed confidence that the beginning of activity of the National Library of Tajikistan will play a great role in increasing society’s interest in books, reading and gaining knowledge.
