In the afternoon, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev, who arrived in Dushanbe to attend a meeting of heads of member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The meeting discussed issues of the development of friendly relations, good neighborliness and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Head of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the meeting said that the relations of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have a great potential for development and expansion, and we need to make effective use of natural, climatic conditions and similar economic structures of the two neighboring countries.
Almazbek Atambayev, in his turn, highly commended Tajikistan's chairmanship in the CSTO, in the preparation of the summit of the organization of the Summit and congratulated Emomali Rahmon with a very successful and effective presidency in the CSTO.
With satisfaction was stressed that between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan exists a wide-ranging legal and contractual basis, consisting of more than 90 documents on cooperation. The meeting also noted that the priority is cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture and trade, and also stressed the need to further strengthen the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Special attention was paid to the solution of the border issues, the development of cross-border trade and strengthening on this basis of friendship and good neighborliness between the residents of the border villages.
One of the main issues of the meeting were expansion of transport and trade links, the transit capacity of the two neighboring countries, including through the provision of the international status of border crossings Karamyk on the highway Dushanbe-Jirgatal-Saritosh, as well as the construction of transit railways and roads, pipelines and power lines.
Constructive talks took place on the current situation in the region, the world and the joint interaction of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, including the consolidation of peace and stability in Central Asia.
